Tags: you add them in the “Post Tags” section just under the Update button on the right side.

Keywords: on sites that we develop, there is a built in section for them. Otherwise I would suggest installing the All in One SEO Pack. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

Thanks, is there usually a place in your WP control panel to put these? Because I don’t see one in mine. Do you use an HTML tag to add them?

Sorry, but I’ve been concentrating on content with my blog. Just now getting into this SEO business.

Great question. The most important detail to keep in mind is that they’re entirely different things, regardless of their outward similarity.

Tags are used to organize and navigate your site more easily.

Keywords are just extra words attached to a given entry as meta-data, and those words are included in regular text searches, even though those words may not be displayed in the template output. (So, for example, if you write an entry on tigers, you can include “big cats” in the keywords, and it’ll turn up for that even if you don’t use that phrase in the entry body.)
